I work in the Department of Philosophy at the University of York. At York, I'm the Convenor & Admissions Tutor for Philosophy Postgraduate Taught Programmes, and Programme Leader for the MA in Philosophy and the Graduate Diploma. If you are interested in postgraduate study at York, please get in touch: david.ingram@york.ac.uk
Away from York, I'm the Vice-President of the Philosophy of Time Society, a Senior Member of the Centre for Philosophy of Time (at the University of Milan), and I'm on the Steering Committee for the International Association for Philosophy of Time. Also, I help organise the New England Workshops on Metaphysics (with Matt Duncan) at Rhode Island College. In the Spring term 2022, I was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy & Linguistics at MIT.
In 2022–23, I taught four modules at York: (1) Rationalist Metaphysics, (2) Reading Philosophy, (3) The Nature of Time, and (4) Time, Tense, & Existence. In the last few years, I've taught courses on metaphysics, general philosophy of science, philosophy of physics, and early modern philosophy. I'm a Fellow (FHEA) of the Higher Education Academy / AdvanceHE. For more on my teaching, see here.
I work mostly on metaphysics and the philosophy of time. I recently published a book on my preferred theory of time, Presentism. For more on my research (and links to my published articles), see here and here.
Before moving to York in 2017, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Philosophy of Time, based at the University of Milan. Before that, I was an Assistant Professor of Metaphysics at the University of Nottingham where I taught courses on metaphysics, epistemology, and philosophy of mind. I completed my PhD in Nottingham under the supervision of Jonathan Tallant.
